When Noddy and Pixie Conquer Heights in Gangtok

The Gangtok Disaster
When Noddy & Pixie Accidentally Face Their Worst Nightmare
The Problem
Pixie is terrified of heights.
Noddy suggested Gangtok.
She didn't realize until they landed that Gangtok is literally a city BUILT IN MOUNTAINS.
"This is so funny," Noddy said.
"This is not funny," Pixie replied from under a blanket in the car.
Day 1: The Ropeway Disaster
"Let's take the cable car," Noddy suggested cheerfully.
"Absolutely not."
"It has amazing views"
"Of how far down I can fall? No."
Noddy dragged her anyway.
The Gangtok Ropeway was basically a box dangling over the city. Pixie spent the entire ride gripping the bar, convinced she was going to die.
"You're fine," Noddy said, looking at city views like it was normal to be suspended in air.
"I'm dying. Actually dying."
"You're very dramatically alive."
From the top, the Himalayan views were stunning. Pixie refused to enjoy them. Out of principle.
"MG Marg is nice and flat at least," she said hopefully.
They went to MG Marg. She relaxed. Bought prayer flags she didn't understand. Had coffee at Baker's Cafe overlooking the actual abyss on all sides.

"This is a trick," she told Noddy. "The whole city is a height trap."
He was insufferably amused.
Day 2: The Lake Betrayal
"Tsomgo Lake is calm," Noddy promised. "Peaceful. Beautiful."
What he didn't mention: Tsomgo Lake is at 12,000 feet altitude, requires driving UP A MOUNTAIN PASS, and has zero guard rails.
The road was winding. The drop-off was deadly. Pixie was narrating her will the entire drive.
"If I die here, I'm haunting you," she said.
"You have a queue."
At the lake, Pixie grudgingly admitted it was gorgeous. Brilliant turquoise. Snow-capped peaks. Absolutely worth the terror.
"I'm still mad," she said.
"You're very obviously enjoying yourself."
Day 3: The Monastery Reckoning
Rumtek Monastery was perched on a CLIFF.
Of course it was.
"These monks chose to live here?" Pixie asked, horrified.
"Enlightenment requires sacrifice," a monk said passing by.
"Enlightenment requires not dying of a heart attack," she muttered.
But the monastery was peaceful. Prayer wheels spinning. Prayer flags fluttering. Buddhist statues watching her panic with serene wisdom.
She sat there for an hour. Not praying. Just... breathing.
When she came out, Noddy was waiting.
"You made it," he said.
"Against my will and all logic."
"And?"
"And... it was okay. The view was nice. The monks seemed calm. The altitude didn't kill me."
"Character development."
Day 4: The Confession
Tashi Viewpoint for sunrise.
Pixie went. Didn't complain. Much.
The sunrise over the Himalayas was obscene. Pink spreading into gold. Snow-capped peaks glowing. Impossible beauty happening 12,000 feet in the air.
"You know what?" she said.
"What?"
"Gangtok is the worst city for a person who's afraid of heights."
"Yeah."
"But also... maybe I needed it?"
Noddy smiled. "You faced something. You survived. You got sunrises."
"I got panic attacks and beautiful views."
"Same thing?"
"Completely different things. But... worth it, I guess."
The Real Talk
Gangtok doesn't accommodate fear.
It sits in mountains. Has cable cars. Puts monasteries on cliffs.
It forces you to go high.

And somehow that's exactly what some people need.
